Job Description

About Boston Bugs

Boston Bugs provides professional pest management services throughout the Greater Boston area. Our residential and commercial teams support homeowners, apartment communities, hospitality providers, healthcare facilities, educational institutions, and property management companies.

Among the most technically demanding services we provide is bed bug management. Successful treatment programs require detailed inspections, careful preparation, customer education, treatment precision, documentation, and follow-up verification. Unlike many common pest issues, bed bug infestations often involve significant customer stress, operational disruption, and reputational concerns.

As demand for specialist services continues to grow, we are seeking a Bed Bug Treatment Specialist to join our Boston operation.

Position Overview

The Bed Bug Treatment Specialist focuses exclusively on the inspection, treatment, monitoring, and management of bed bug infestations.

Unlike a general pest technician who performs a wide range of services, this position requires specialized knowledge of bed bug biology, infestation patterns, treatment protocols, customer preparation requirements, and post-treatment verification procedures.

The successful candidate will work closely with homeowners, tenants, property managers, hotel operators, healthcare administrators, and institutional customers to develop and implement effective treatment programs.

This role combines technical expertise, customer communication, inspection skills, documentation, and problem-solving.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed bed bug inspections.
  • Identify evidence of bed bug activity.
  • Assess infestation severity and distribution.
  • Develop treatment recommendations.
  • Perform approved treatment services.
  • Install and monitor detection devices where appropriate.
  • Educate customers regarding preparation requirements.
  • Document treatment activities and findings.
  • Conduct follow-up inspections.
  • Verify treatment effectiveness.
  • Coordinate with property management personnel when necessary.
  • Maintain compliance with company procedures and safety standards.

Inspection Responsibilities

Accurate inspections are essential because treatment effectiveness depends on understanding the extent of an infestation.

Inspection areas may include:

  • Box springs.
  • Bed frames.
  • Upholstered furniture.

  • Wall voids.
  • Electrical outlets.

  • Luggage storage locations.
  • Common areas within multi-unit properties.

The specialist must be thorough, methodical, and capable of identifying subtle signs of activity.

The specialist is responsible for explaining:

  • Inspection findings.
  • Treatment objectives.
  • Preparation requirements.
  • Follow-up expectations.

Accurate records are essential for both operational and customer purposes.

Documentation may include:

  • Inspection reports.
  • Treatment records.
  • Monitoring results.
  • Follow-up findings.
  • Photographic evidence.
  • Service recommendations.
  • Customer communications.

Detailed documentation supports continuity of service and program evaluation.

Problem-Solving Responsibilities

Every infestation presents unique circumstances.

The specialist may be required to:

  • Investigate recurring activity.
  • Identify contributing factors.
  • Evaluate treatment effectiveness.
  • Adjust management strategies.

The role requires analytical thinking and attention to detail.

Required Qualifications
