Boston Bugs provides pest management and wildlife control services to residential and commercial customers throughout Boston. While many customers initially contact us because of a wildlife problem, our long-term objective is to help them prevent future infestations through professional exclusion, structural improvements, and property protection measures.
Our wildlife division works with homeowners, property managers, commercial property operators, municipalities, and facility managers to identify animal entry points and implement durable exclusion solutions. As demand for these services continues to grow, we are expanding our Dayton-based team.
Position Overview
The Wildlife Exclusion Technician is responsible for identifying, repairing, and securing structural vulnerabilities that allow nuisance wildlife to enter buildings.
Unlike a Wildlife Removal Specialist, whose primary focus is trapping and removal activities, this role focuses on prevention and property protection. The objective is to stop future wildlife intrusions by physically modifying structures, sealing access points, and improving building integrity.
This position combines inspection work, light construction skills, customer communication, and problem-solving. Successful candidates enjoy hands-on work, attention to detail, and seeing tangible results from completed projects.
Primary Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed structural inspections of residential and commercial properties.
- Identify wildlife entry points and vulnerability areas.
- Assess rooflines, soffits, vents, foundations, crawlspaces, and exterior building components.
- Develop exclusion recommendations based on inspection findings.
- Install exclusion materials and preventative barriers.
- Repair damaged screening, vent covers, and protective systems.
- Seal access points using approved materials and methods.
- Document completed work with photographs and service records.
- Communicate recommendations to customers.
- Maintain equipment and company vehicles.
- Follow all company safety standards and operational procedures.
Common Wildlife Issues Addressed
The Wildlife Exclusion Technician may help protect properties from:
- Raccoons.
- Squirrels.
- Bats.
- Birds.
- Opossums.
- Rodents.
- Skunks.
- Other nuisance wildlife commonly found in Ohio.
While animal behavior knowledge is helpful, the primary focus of this role is building protection rather than animal handling.
Inspection Responsibilities
Every project begins with a detailed inspection.
Technicians are expected to evaluate:
- Roof intersections.
- Attic ventilation systems.
- Gable vents.
- Foundation gaps.
- Utility penetrations.
- Chimney structures.
- Exterior wall conditions.
- Crawlspace access points.
- Drainage-related vulnerabilities.
- Previous repair work.
Accurate inspections are critical because long-term success depends on identifying all significant entry points.
Construction and Repair Activities
The role involves a variety of repair and installation tasks, including:
- Installing wildlife-resistant vent covers.
- Replacing damaged screening.
- Sealing construction gaps.
- Installing exclusion barriers.
- Reinforcing vulnerable structures.
- Repairing access points created by wildlife activity.
- Installing chimney protection systems.
- Performing minor exterior repair work.
Candidates do not need to be licensed contractors, but practical construction aptitude is highly valued.
Customer Communication Responsibilities
Many customers are unfamiliar with exclusion services and may assume wildlife control ends once an animal leaves a structure.
Technicians must explain:

Work Environment
This position is primarily field-based and involves daily travel throughout the Dayton region. Work is performed outdoors and may include roof access, attic inspections, crawlspace evaluations, and repair projects at both residential and commercial properties.

Work Schedule
Monday through Friday. Seasonal overtime opportunities may be available during periods of increased wildlife activity and customer demand.
